SUP Happens! >> Trip Tips >> Trip Tip – Seddinsee

🛶 Trip details

Length: 10.5 km (3-5 hours)
Type: Round trip
Best for: Paddling with friends, enjoying the beauty of nature, laid-back afternoon / sunset trip

Level: Intermediate/experienced paddlers (distance, wind, occasional boat traffic). Suitable for beginners with shorter variations or good conditions.

Location: Schmöckwitz – Gosen, Berlin / Brandenburg
Start/End: Gemeindeanleger Schmöckwitz

About: Embark on a laid-back SUP adventure through one of Berlin’s southernmost waterway gems. Starting in the charming village of Schmöckwitz, this 10 km route takes you across the wide-open Seddinsee — a tranquil lake dotted with islands, marinas, and forested shores.

It’s a route made for casual conversations and panoramic glides towards the beautiful sunset. Whether you’re catching up with friends or soaking up solo silence, the views are big, the vibe is peaceful, and the city feels far, far away — especially as the sun dips low over the treeline.

🧭 Route Directions

  • Launch from Gemeindeanleger Schmöckwitz. It’s a very convenient spot with grassy space and a couple of benches — great for setting up or winding down. Water levels vary a bit (up to 50 cm drop from the bank), but access is easy and manageable.
  • Paddle out onto the Dahme River, heading northeast, under the Schmöckwitzer Bridge toward the mouth of the Seddinsee.
  • Once on the lake, follow the northern shoreline — it’s more forested, less developed, and perfect for easy cruising. Take your time and enjoy the wide horizon.
  • Pause for a short break near the Seddinwall Island. Have a nice relaxing snack on the shore, or straight on the board.
  • Continue norht-east. After ~2 km, you’ll reach the turnaround point near Gosen, where the lake narrows into the Gosener Kanal. You can explore the islands to the east, but be careful of the shallow waters and man-made nesting spots on the water, for local birds.
  • On the return trip, follow the southern shoreline — dotted with marinas, boathouses and floating platforms. The mood changes with the light, so the way back feels different – especially if you time it to catch the sunset over the water.
  • End your trip back at Gemeindeanleger Schmöckwitz. On hot days, just before you disembark, take a refreshing dip at Badewiese Schmöckwitz — the small beach just across the river.
  • After packing your gear, grab a hot bowl of pho at JĂĽ-Bao-Yuan / VINAHAUS, just across the street.

⚠️ Safety & Conditions

  • Wind: Seddinsee is prone to strong wind gusts, especially from west-southwest. Gusts over 30 km/h are not uncommon — always check the forecast before heading out.
  • Boat traffic: Expect occasional wake from motorboats and yachts, especially on weekends.
  • Sunset trips: Avoid paddling alone at dusk — if you must, inform someone of your route plans and expected return time. Also, carry a waterproof flashlight or headlamp just in case, and plan your return with a sufficient safety buffer.
